L. Hjort's factory in Bornholm was founded in 1859 and still exists, owned by the same family.

Gertrud Kudielka, born in the Czech Republic, was hired at the factory around 1930. For over 30 years, she was a mayor force in the factory's production with her artistic abilities that she had expanded on a her route throughout Europe. Among her most famous designs are little teddy bears, small imaginative animals and characters with folk costumes.

Large figures like this are very rare to see from L. Hjorth's factory.
