Manganese colored snerle glass, ca 1880.

Sold

Height 10.5 cm.

The glass have a fine manganese tone in day light. This is very difficult to get in a picture.
The Snerle glass appears for the first time in danish glass catalogs in 1867 and is taken out of production during the early 1900s.

To remove the gray tone glass could get, manganese would be added to the glass. This helped to clean the mass and give the glass a whiter color. At times the glass mass took to much color and then got a purple or pink color, like this glass.
