The painting depicts Amalie von Schintling who was painted in a series of pictures, a total of 36, commissioned by King Ludwig the 1st of Bavaria, depicting the most beautiful women of his kingdom.

Karl Joseph Stieler was appointed royal court painter in 1820 and had a major influence on the neoclassical painting style in the early 1800s.

The painting is of enormous high quality with many fine details and from the late 1800s.
