18th century chair from Copenhagen

Sold

Seat height 48 cm.
Width 45 cm.
Height 100 cm.
Beautiful Danish rococo chair from the 1730-1750s.

The chair is decorated with fine decorations in gold that are nicely patinated now.
It has a so-called double hanger back and was the bourgeoisie's preferred model throughout the 18th century for use in the many salons and rooms that was previously more common in private homes, used visits.
Chairs like this would not stand freely in the room but rather up against walls or other furniture, hence the slightly rough design of the back, as opposed to the beautiful front with mussels and rocailles on the legs. It is in stained beech wood, as Danish furniture was most often from this time.

The seat of the chair is worn and has been given a new cover on top of the old one, but is otherwise in good condition.
