Sold

Height 22.5 cm.

Beautifully detailed figure of a young woman on a stone plinth.

The figure is signed Schmidt Cas for Gustav Schmidt-Cassel.
Gustav Schmidt-Cassel was born in 1867 in Kassel and died in 1954 in Berlin.

Gustav Schmidt-Cassel studied at the Art Academy in Berlin with Ernst Herter, and later became his assistant and took over his workshop.

Schmidt-Cassel exhibited his first sculptures in Berlin. In 1910 he received his first commission, a large equestrian statue of Peter the Great. He also drew the figure of Emperor Friedrich III. on Boltzeplatz which is exhibited in Grodzisk Wielkopolski in Poland.

During the 1920s, he drew a series of sculptures of exotic dancers in the new Art Deco style, where he had a particular focus on the small, fine details.

The figure is in perfect condition with a fine patina. The plinth has a notch on the back.
