Atmospheric winter landscape depicting a snow-covered woodland road, birch trees and red farm buildings in the distance, executed in oil on canvas. Unsigned and presented in a gilt frame from Kleis’ Kunsthandel in Vesterbro, Copenhagen.

Bio:
Danish landscape painting of the early 20th century continued a strong naturalistic tradition centred on the changing seasons, atmospheric light and the native landscape. Winter scenes featuring snow-covered roads, woodland and rural buildings were popular subjects, with clear colour and carefully observed light used to create depth and atmosphere. Kleis’ Kunsthandel in Vesterbro was also an important Copenhagen art dealership and gilding establishment, known for dealing in art and producing artistically crafted picture frames.
